Self-harm isn’t a mental illness but can lead to mental distress. Many people perceive cutting to be the main way of self-harm but there are other ways of self-harm that occur in our everyday life that we don’t realize is hurting us. To be completely honest sometimes self-harm doesn't look like self-harm at all.


Things we do that we didn’t know is self-harm

  • Biting nails

  • Hitting your head 

  • Pulling your hair

  • Breaking a bone

  • Scratching your skin repeatedly and aggressively

  • Even self-sabotaging relationships and pushing people away

  • Excessive drinking or smoking

  • Over-exercising



Things we can do instead of self-harming

  • Journal

  • fidget toys

  • Paint

  • Draw

  • Breathing exercises

  • Go to the gym

  • Bake

  • Be with friends/family
